Travelling by sleeper train is perhaps one of the most exciting ways to experience a country, you’ll pass through cities, jungles and even mountains from the comfort of your private carriage.

There’s something incredibly special going to sleep to the gentle rocking of your compartment and waking up hundred of miles away to a new day and new location.

What makes the perfect sleeper train?

Observation car

Some of the most incredible sights and experiences i've had on the rails have been in the observation car. Be it Amtrak or Rovos rail. In fact my favourites are ones which allow for some outside space for the best unobstructed views.

A thriving bar car

This is the heart and soul of a good sleeper train. By day, a relaxed retreat to write in your journal, play chess or simply watch the world pass by. When night rolls in, enjoy live music and cocktails with new friends and loved ones.

A Comfortable bed

After all that's the main reason you're onboard, to allow sleep during your travel. I've experienced double beds, bunk beds, murphy beds.. but the most comfortable I've ever slept on? Well that will come as a surprise, not the Grand Suite but the VSOE's traditional bunk bed!
